In using gold - a standard symbolic proxy for value, power, and wealth - to depict a shared communal garden space, one lovingly tended to by the artist while living at a collective rental property, standard value metrics becomes a multi-pronged aesthetic refutation of capital ideology. A simple deconstructivist means of illustrating “this here is what really matters”, and a reminder that if we only look for gold, we miss out on seeing the whole picture.
